Energy Awareness

We are infinite beings and as we open to more of our infinite nature we open to aspects of ourselves not easily perceived with our logical mental processes. Our senses begin to open in depth and breadth and we become more intuitively aware. We sense more of what is happening inside and around us. Although this is typically referred to as energy sensitivity, I prefer the term energy awareness to reframe it as positive and as a form of gratitude for my openness. To be aware is a blessing. The more aware we are the more resources we have to work with and the more fulfilling the choices we can make.

When we become more energy aware, we are perceiving things that have always existed; we just did not notice these things before. It may seem like there is so much more energy to deal with, so much more detail, so much more stimuli, but that is not the case. It impacted you before, but because you were not aware of it, you were unable to do anything about it or to use it for your benefit. Now that you are aware, you can make many positive changes in your life and in the world.

Being energy aware makes my life easier in many ways. Because I can feel what is going on with the emotions and thought processes of others, I know who is good for me to spend time with and who is not. I can spot compatible friends and relationship partners easily and I can avoid people whose motives are unloving, or who are not good for me for other reasons. I can also use my energy awareness to sense my own mental, emotional and physical states, and balance them easily. My relationship with myself and with others is based on a foundation of exchange of life force energy, which I can feel and see. Through energy awareness I have learned how to perceive and work with energy to make big changes in myself, in my interactions with others, and in the world as a whole. This, by the way, is the focus of my upcoming book.

Energy is the foundation of life, so to be energy aware is to experience life at its spiritual foundation. What a wonderful gift!!! Yet, energy awareness also has its challenges. When your awareness opens, it can feel like so much stimuli, that it is easy to get lost in it, to feel overwhelmed, exhausted, unable to focus or function. Everyday activities such as having a conversation, being in crowded places, or driving can be difficult or dangerous. Energy awareness is great, but it requires development of new skills, and an open mind. I will address both of these here, starting with new skills. This is, of course, only a partial list, and is based on my own experiences.

SKILLS

Balancing mental body, physical body and emotional body:

It is much easier to be aware and to handle awareness with ease and joy when you are in a state of inner balance and alignment. Start with the process of assessment by calling upon your mental body to present itself and notice what presents. It may appear as colors, images, symbols or metaphors, be heard as sound, be felt with your inner senses or experienced in other ways. Whatever presents, just witness. This is the current state of your mental body.

Now, to upgrade the state of your mental body, call upon it to present in its radiant, divine state and witness what presents. Stay with the experience for a few minutes, then repeat the assessment and upgrading with your emotional and physical bodies. I started with the mental body because once that is upgraded, it is easier to stay focused and clear enough to complete the assessment and upgrading of your emotional and physical bodies.

Once you have upgraded each of your bodies, call upon them to all present at the same time in their upgraded state and call upon them to balance and align with each other so they all work in their optimal state individually and in relationship with each other. I recommend doing this often, as it will keep you clear and balanced, making it easier to focus on what you want.

Focusing on what you want to experience:

Manifesting is simply the process of focusing your attention on something. In every moment you have many choices as to where you wish to focus your attention. You focus your attention through what you look at, listen to, taste, the environments you choose, the people who you consider friends, the thoughts you have and much more. When you focus on something, you heighten your awareness of it in your life and it seems like it is everywhere.

Focusing your attention is a natural process. It is something you do all the time. In terms of energy awareness, the choices of where to focus your attention are infinite. When your energy awareness opens and deepens, the amount of stimuli may seem like too much to handle. Yet there are choices you can make on where to focus your attention that will make things easier and also enhance your experience of the choices you make.

On a very practical, everyday level, I find it helps to stay focused on what I am doing or who I am with, rather than on the surroundings. This makes me a better listener because I am paying attention. It improves my relationships. In addition, by focusing on another person or on the task at hand, I am not focusing on everything else, which often means less feelings of over-stimulation.

This leads to another important focusing choice: the decision to focus on your ability to choose, or the fact that you are easily overloaded by stimuli. When you think about how energy sensitive you are and try to avoid over-stimulation, you are focused on over-stimulation. When you focus on your ability to choose, the concept of energy sensitivity is irrelevant. Energy is about choices and empowerment, not about difficulty or suffering. Awareness of your ability to choose is an important gift.

Another gift of energy awareness is that it brings to the forefront any limiting beliefs you have. If I am having a conversation with someone and just talking to them feels overwhelming, it is because I am choosing to focus on some aspect of them that feels overwhelming or uncomfortable to me. It is not something about them that makes me uncomfortable; it is my choice on where I am focusing my attention and, most importantly, my self limiting belief(s) that are behind the choice. I can choose to (later) examine why I focused on that aspect of them. The limiting belief is always something I feel about myself. Energy sensitivity is not about some energy “out there,” it is an internal process.

Part 2

Now that you have developed some basic skills, I would like to offer an addition to the upgrading technique. Your physical, emotional and mental bodies operate in relationship to each other. You can think of them as overlapping and in this overlap a dynamic takes place that can also be upgraded (as can any relationship). So, as in the original activity, upgrade all three bodies, and then (using the same technique) upgrade the union of the physical and emotional, the physical and mental, the mental and emotional, and all three bodies together, then balance it all out. How does that feel?

Your Infinite Self

One of the side benefits of upgrading and balancing yourself is that you develop a sense of self that is based on your senses, rather than on thinking. Therefore, when changes occur in your life or in the world around you, it is easier to let go of identity that does not work for you because your sense of self is based on sensation rather than on self limiting thinking and understanding. The material world may look solid and unchangeable, but that is not the case. Things happen.

Having an identity based on your senses means you can more easily adapt to change and that you can continue to stay in upgraded balance without limiting mental constructs holding you back from fulfillment. Whether the change is in employment, relocation, a relationship ending or beginning, breaking a habit, or something like the world of form suddenly “disappearing” and showing itself as a mass of vibrating bits of energy, a flexible sense of self based on your senses makes it easier to stay balanced and in the flow. It is also deeply empowering to experience yourself with your senses, free of all definition and meaning. This is you in your, natural, infinite, divine state of abundance.

Once you can experience yourself as sensation, free of definition, identity and meaning, you can use this experience of yourself in many ways. It works great for stress reduction, relaxation, anti-aging and rejuvenation. It is a great way to quiet your mind before going to sleep, or to start the day with a clear mind. If there is something for which you would like perspective, you can have it in mind before you begin and let the experience dissolve away anything preventing you from seeing the situation more clearly. You can also use this technique to non-attach to limiting beliefs, either by having the belief or beliefs in mind before you begin, or just allowing whatever needs to be done to happen as a result of this technique. I find that working with this sense of myself is a much quicker, easier and more effective way to get beyond limiting beliefs than intellectually processing. It also frees my mind for other things that are more fulfilling and/or productive.

As you work with the upgrading activity and practice sensing your infinite nature, you will develop your own ways of working with energy awareness. The uses and benefits are endless. This article is just a starting point. I hope it will be the foundation for lots of wonderful exploration and healing change. Energy awareness has its challenges but it also has a gift; a sense of self that opens the door to infinite possibility.
